SCIE 210 Week 9 Discussion | Science Assignment Help | Franklin University
Week 9
Discussion - Limits of Science
Purpose
To assess your ability to debate the
limits of science.
Overview
It is the goal of the philosophy of
science to make clear how science both acquires and applies knowledge by
examining the logic of scientific evidence or explanations, the nature of
scientific laws, and the nature of scientific theories. However, the
methods of science we use to provide us with knowledge have limits, especially
in regard to the types of questions that can be answered. For example,
“Just because something seems (or is believed to be) real, does not mean it is
real. But, can we ever know what is real? For, not only is there
the problem of determining whether a real world exists independently of human
experience, but the problem of determining how the real world can be known
(i.e., as justified true belief)." (See key points, Week 9.). In
this discussion we explore the limits of science and what this means for the
pursuit of knowledge (i.e., justified true belief).
