Overview
To be sure, the ultimate goal of
modern science is the advancement of certified knowledge (for the good of humankind).
But, the scientist’s integrity becomes the most important characteristic that
guarantees that the knowledge produced via research is done properly. So,
when a modern scientist behaves in professionally unethical ways he or she is essentially
breaking away from the community of scientists by violating the norms for
expected behavior in science.
Action Items
- Review
the readings and videos for this week.
- Identify
a modern (within the last 100 years) example of misconduct in science that
was not addressed in the readings or key points.
- Post
an explanation of the incident with your sources of information. Explain
what the misconduct was and what should have been done to stay within the
norms of science.
