HRM 410 Week 1 Discussion 2 | Assignment Help | Devry University
Week 1
Discussion 2
Week 1: Team
Formation
Team Formation Discussion
Students, as you are undoubtedly
aware, organizations go through a lot of work trying to hire the right people
for positions. During the rest of this course, you will be working in a temporary
organization that is charged with completing the Course Project.
In order to staff the organization,
students will decide on what the important characteristics are for the position
of team member. Then, in a separate step, you will all interview each other
during some web conferences and determine team membership.
Take a look at Chapter 1 of the
text. In Chapter 1, there is a lengthy discussion of the characteristics that
may be important when hiring individuals. Let's discuss those characteristics
in this Discussion.
In your judgment, which
characteristics are important for the position of team member for this class?
In a group interview, how can you determine whether a potential team member has
those characteristics? Are there deal breaker characteristics that would
absolutely prevent you from wanting an individual on your team, or at least
would be heavily weighted against them? (These questions are the focus of this
discussion topic.)
Team Formation Interviews and
Formation (Ending Week 2)
After we have developed an idea of
what characteristics are important, we will hold group interviews to begin to
select our groups. I will be scheduling [three or four, depending on class
size] WebEx conferences. They will be at different times to accommodate different
student availabilities. I will start the meetings but hope that you all will
form into a group discussion. The goal of these meetings is to allow you to
gather information necessary to form a self-managing work group to complete the
course project. If a team forms during one of the meetings, just say so during
the meeting. If you are not in a team by the end of the meeting, you may attend
another meeting to try to find teammates.
You will be graded on your
participation in the meeting(s), how effectively you use the time to find new
members, and that you ended up in a team. Be sure to use what we learned in
this discussion. You have until the end of Week 2 to form a team, and the
points for team formation will be recorded in the Week 2 portion of the
gradebook.
