Discussion: Responding to Epidemics in Culturally Appropriate Ways
According to the Centers for Disease Control (n.d.), “[t]he 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa…. Two imported cases, including one death, in addition to two locally acquired cases in healthcare workers, were reported in the United States.”
Public fear in the United States outweighed the limited number of cases. For public health workers, communicating and educating about the disease was more time consuming than treating it.
For this Discussion, you consider and respond to two scenarios of the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
