Task:
“Provides primary aspects of a family, including environmental, physical, social, emotional, and mental impacts” The family assessment information is vital for decision making, planning family care, and determining if a family requires extra support or referrals. Some nurses find it challenging to deal with families experiencing crises; however, this is the critical moment that these families need nurses most for guidance, knowledge, and understanding. Research indicates that families have become more diversified to the increased rate of single parenting and engagement of both parents to the labor force (Kaakinen et al., 2010). Nowadays, parents lack enough time to meet health care requirements for their families. His increased diversity leads to more nurses’ engagement in family activities, including taking care of the elderly.

“My community observation acknowledged a few areas of deficits within my community. One very important area is the lack of access to care. There is only one primary care provider and one long term care facility. The hospitals are off the Island so for those without transportation it make it difficult to find and schedule visits. There is also only one grocery store and it is higher priced than any competitors off the Island. It is surprising to me that the residents do not want to build another grocery store, they have blocked bids in the past. I would think people would want choices and options. I do think as the area grows and more building takes place there will be more of a need and more requests for choices in medical practices as well as markets. I love the area I live and there are some great caring people but there is also a segment that feel as though they are not supposed to be exposed to real Life. Things like a few homeless people looking for help and the rude shocking behavior was surprising to me. The situation made it's way to the local web page , seriously we are all impacted and should be to the homeless situation but we should look at them as humans not any less than the rest of us. Any one of us could find ourselves in that position and we should never forget this.”

“The most important data point was that there isn't a hospital located in the area I surveyed anymore. It was abruptly shut down 5 years ago without warning. The neighboring counties have 4 hospitals between them. Either way it's a good distance if you're in need. The most surprising finding is even as rural as the county is the homeless population is almost non-existent. We don't see people panhandling like we do in the next county. If you ever do see someone asking for money they're usually just passing through. I also live in this county and I like the rural areas and privacy but we need our hospital back and we also need more doctor's to come into this area. We have a disconnect and seem to have been swept under the rug. The people who live here are at a huge disadvantage by not having adequate healthcare. It's disheartening to know we have a liquor store and a Burger King but we can't get our hospital back. Our law enforcement is also lacking by a mile, but that's another story.”
