English Composition II

Task:
With a submission of an improved draft introductory paragraph like this one “I was assailed by memories of a life that wasn't mine anymore, but one in which I'd found the simplest and most lasting joys : the smells of summer, the part of town I loved, a certain evening sky, Marie's dresses and the way she laughed. The utter pointlessness of whatever I was doing there seized me by the throat, and all I wanted was to get it over with and get back to my cell and sleep. (Camus, pp.76)” .
Write an essay that should present a close reading of key passages of the novel The Stranger. For each quotation, create a separate paragraph. Each of these paragraphs must include a strong topic sentence that makes a claim about the quoted passage, a statement that establishes the context of the quotation, the quotation itself, and a complete analysis of the quotation that shows the deep meaning you draw from it, emphasizing how it is relevant to the question you are trying to answer (how it serves as evidence of one thing or another). You will want to keep in mind that I will pose as a resistant reader; that is to say, I will not automatically accept your interpretation of the quoted passages, so you MUST persuade me that your interpretation is valid.
Lastly, a Works Cited list in keeping with MLA Style rules is required; it should list the reference sources you use in your introduction as well as the correct translation of The Stranger. (Note: content, organization, expression, grammar, and mechanics should be up to par for a college-level composition. No conclusion is required for this simple draft.
