DBM 502 WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT 1
Assignment 1
Learning Team: Database Roles
Review the Learning Team Project Instructions.
Write a 2- to 3-page paper describing the organization's staffing needs relative to database and application development, and database administration. The team needs to agree on the staff positions to use. From there, they must decide on a job description for each position including expected education and certifications, required skills, experience, and expected pay range. All of these should be supported by references (including information from salary surveys or the Occupational Outlook Handbook to show that pay ranges are reasonable).
In this week's paper, the team must make a partial submission of the final report that will:
- Identify the role(s) assumed by each team member.
- Describe each position, including title, job description, required education and/or certification, expected experience, skills required, pay range, and one or more questions to ask candidates during the interview. There should be enough positions to handle the major activities in database development and administration. Each description should identify the organizational role that is responsible for the position and the author of the description in that role (e.g., the DBA from the database administration role, or a business analyst from the user/stakeholder or application team).

Learning Team: Database Design Standards
Review the Learning Team Project Instructions.
Create database design standards and validation approaches for the organization. This needs to include how the design would be checked from each perspective, with each role again contributing according to its interests (for example, the administration group according to their standards for performance, the users describing how they will validate that the database will be able to contain the information that they require, the development teams that they will be able to write the expected transactions relatively easily, which might depend on the degree of normalization, the application team that any data they need for managing the interface is covered, etc.).
Write a 1- to 2-page paper explaining how the standards and approaches defend the interests of each of the roles.

Learning Team Instructions: Database Management Preparation
Read the following information to prepare for the Learning Team assignment.
The following Learning Team project is due in Week Six with review points given throughout the course.
In this project, team members will work and act as a management group for a large organization that needs to staff and organize database development and management. Team members will select roles reflecting different perspectives of database management.
General classes of roles are database administration, database design, database development, application development, quality assurance and user/stakeholder. Each team member can cover one or more areas, but not all of them, and, if needed, you can have multiple database development, application development or user roles. At least one team member should be in each role.
The team will develop a paper to explain how it would staff and run the organization. This is not based on specific plans for database applications, but it is acceptable to use a project from the individual assignment for context if that helps. The paper will be delivered in Week Six, along with a presentation for executives so they can understand what has been agreed on. The paper will cover all of the areas described in Week Two through Week Five. It is expected that between the initial draft and the final paper, team members will critique one another's submissions based on the interests of the roles they are playing.
Learning Team: Database Administration Standards
Create standards for database administration. This should include how performance will be monitored and tuned, how backups will happen, how data quality will be monitored and improved, how information should be secured, etc. The administration role is major here, but development roles will need to contribute on where they can build in ongoing monitoring, and all roles have an interest in database quality and recovery. From a user perspective, the standards should make clear how all of the standards are important to the business.
Submit in a 1- to 2-page APA formatted paper using the Assignment Files tab.
Learning Team: Executive Presentation
Combine the work from the preceding weeks. If not already done, make sure that the interests of each role are considered, and, where important, explicitly described for each area.
Create a 7- to 10-slide presentation. Include videos, audio, photos, diagrams, or graphs as appropriate. Include substantial speaker notes, or insert audio narration into your presentation. Explore the Microsoft® PowerPoint® website to locate instructions on recording audio, for an executive audience. Your goal is to convince them that by recruiting according to the job descriptions and following the standard, the organization will be able to deliver effective, reliable data management support to meet business needs.
