Assignment ObjectivesThis assignment is designed to introduce you to conducting an industry or sectoral analysis. It enables you to review existing academic and policy research on a specific industry in Canada. It allows you to connect geographic and locational patterns to broader socio-economic and technological trends, and explain them.Steps to complete the assignment:1.Choose an industry that we have been discussing in class over the term (e.g. film, automotive, forestry, mining, ride-hailing, etc.)2.Conduct research on the industry using a mix of academic and non-academic sources, ensuring that you will be able to write the paper as described below (see #4)3.Students are encouraged to use data, figures, graphs and tables to illustrate the major points in their discussion.4.Write a research paper with the following structure:Overview of the industry in CanadaBrief history/background of the industryKey trends and major issues/challenges facing the industry Actors and institutions involvedImportant policy strategies and initiativesGeography of the industry in CanadaCurrent employment and changes in employmentSpatial patterns of employment and investmentLocal impacts of the industry (e.g. community, city, regional level)Discussion and analysis
