Discussion Board Forum 5

Topic: Research and Policy Development

After reading Chapter 5 of the Mosher textbook, the article entitled "Internet Development, Censorship, and Cyber Crimes in China" by Liang and Lu, and the article entitled "'Snitches End Up in Ditches' and Other Cautionary Tales" by Morris, discuss the following prompts:

  • Although presented differently, how do the research articles affect the development of criminal justice public policy?
  • As a criminal justice leader, does the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) give you a reason for concern? How/Why?
  • What are the advantages of the NCVS versus the Uniform Crime Report (UCR)/National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data?
  • As a criminal justice leader or school safety leader, does the "'Snitches End Up in Ditches' and Other Cautionary Tales" article cause you to act? In what way?

Discussion Board Instructions

There are 8Discussion Board Forumprompts. You will complete the assigned readings and post a 250-word thread answering the assigned Discussion Board Forum prompt.

This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussion Board Forums. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt. For additional information on Post-First, click here for a tutorial.

Each thread:

  • Must have a minimum of 2peer reviewed references properly formatted in current APA.
  • Must be submitted in the Discussion Board Forum’s textbox. It must be properly formatted and in current APA format (attachments will not be accepted).
  • Must have a substantive Christian worldview backed by a solid Holy Bible reference.

You will reply to 2 classmates’ threads; each reply must be150words and must have a minimum of 1 academic/scholarly reference. Each reply must contain 1–2 sentences addressing issues, questions, or statements from a Christian worldview.

Responding to a classmate’s post requires both the addition of new ideas and analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon initial posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate, or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.

Submit your thread by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday of the assigned modules/weeks. Submit your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the same modules/weeks except for Module/Week 8. In Module/Week 8, submit your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday.
