"Analyzing Traditional Theories of Assessment and Crafting Assessments"  Please respond to the following:

  • From the e-Activity, imagine you are an educator in a local school who must develop an assessment program your fellow teachers will use to measure their students’ progress. Select one (1) of the following subject areas in a course level of your choosing: math, science, physical education, humanities, design technology, language arts, or visual and performing arts.
  • Next, suggest two (2) assessment approaches that instructors or practitioners could use to ensure that students demonstrate comprehension of concepts in this subject area. Justify your response with information from the text or video.
  • Check out this article about math and reading assessment scores issued by the U.S. Department of Education this week.   The article looks at test scores for Florida and Texas, arguing that these scores should be higher because the states serve more disadvantaged students than other states.  In fact, the Urban League has made this adjustment:

A report released Monday by the Urban Institute has adjusted the raw scores for each state to account for student demographics, including poverty, race, native language and the share of students in special education. The central idea behind the adjustments is that not all students arrive at school equally prepared, and states should not be judged as if students did.
