 Assignment 1: Discussion: Informative, Demonstration, and Definition Speeches

By Saturday, May 27, 2017, complete the two parts of the assignment. 

Part I:

View speech video 11 (transcript). Discuss whether it meets the criteria for a good informative speech. You will find these criteria in your textbook. If you think the effectiveness and impact of the speech could be enhanced, post your suggestions for improvement. Apply the principles of critical listening to your feedback. Remember that you are evaluating whether the speaker met the criteria for a good informative speech. You are not primarily critiquing his delivery skills.

Part II:

Provide examples of demonstration and definition speeches from your own experience to explain what the strengths are. You may use either speeches you have presented or ones you have viewed. In your answer, you need to take us point by point through each of your examples and tell us how the speaker attempted to ensure that the audience understood his or her meaning.

Through Wednesday, May 31, 2017, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses in the Discussion Area. Remember to answer the questions above, and to be objective, clear, and concise. Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress. Submit your responses to the appropriate topic in this Discussion Area.
