For one of the speeches, discuss the speaker’s use of language. How closely did the speaker follow the textbook’s guidelines for using language effectively? What phrases, if any, were especially memorable?  How could the speaker improve his or her use of language in order to have a more effective speech? (Do not forget to tell us which speech clip you used for this question.)

For the second speech, discuss the speaker’s nonverbal communication—this can include such factors as tone of voice, eye contact, gestures, posture, and dress. What aspects of the speaker’s nonverbal delivery improved his or her overall presentation? What aspects of the speaker’s nonverbal delivery detracted from his or her presentation? What suggestions for improvement would you suggest if you were critiquing this speaker? (Don’t forget to tell us which speech clip you used for this question.)

Think about how the attributes of a speaker’s voice (pitch, volume, pace and quality, articulation) can be positive or negative. Are either extremes of these qualities positive or negative? Identify a public figure who you feel has an exceptional voice. Explain what factors make his or her voice so exceptional.

By Saturday, May 20, 2017, respond to the two topics of your choice and post to the Discussion Area. Start reviewing the responses posted by your classmates. Through Wednesday, May 24, 2017, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses in the Discussion Area. Remember to answer the questions above, and to be objective, clear, and concise. Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress. Submit your responses to the appropriate topic in this Discussion Area.
