M2 Assignment 2

Assignment 2: Informative Speech Preparation

An informative speech is typically used to inform your audience on a person, place, event, concept, or object through demonstration and description. Remember this is not a how-to speech. The topic selected should be appropriate for class discussion.  Be creative, and select topics you will enjoy researching and speaking to an audience about. Remember to consider your audience in your topic selection. Include visual aids to enhance your presentation.

  • To start creating your informative speech (which you will deliver in Module 4), use the topic approved by your instructor in Module 1 and conduct some Internet searches using your subtopics. As you research, identify main ideas about your topic and examine if you may have missed important aspects of the topic and see what other topics can be developed.
  • Describe your main topic in 4–5 sentences and why you are interested in the topic.
  • Identify 6 subtopics for your selected topic. The subtopics should give a clear indication of the specific aspect being covered and how each of them relates back to the main topic. Topics must be listed as phrases, but they must be complete in meaning and follow a parallel structure. For instance, if the first sub-point begins with a verb, make sure the remaining sub-topics also follow a similar structure.

(Note that if you are having difficulty with this assignment, contact your instructor immediately for help. You cannot afford to fall behind on starting your speeches.)
