4.4ASSIGNMENT:ARTICLE REVIEW
INTRODUCTION
You were instructed early on in the course to select and begin reading two academic books or articles (peer-reviewed articles) on the topic selected by your group. You will write a review of those sources as an assignment in both Workshops Four and Five.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. The review consists of four parts:
a. Basic Identification. This should be in APA format, listed near the top of the page, left justified. This information is the same used to identify the article/book in the initial bibliography.
b. Summary. Spend one to three paragraphs summarizing the essential content, ideas, and thesis of the author. This should be as objective as possible a look at the topic covered, author- view, scope, and arguments contained within the article or book that you read.
c. Fit. This section departs a little from traditional article reviews. In this section you should endeavor to connect this article or book with the other works that your Project Team has reviewed and discussed. This should help you and your team to develop the PowerPoint presentation due in Workshop 5. If possible, try to connect this article with the larger scholarship in the discipline (for example, if you read an article on newspapers in the 1760s you may want to connect that article to others written on the American Revolution). Plan to write one to three paragraphs on this part.
d. Evaluation. Write one to three paragraphs in which you discuss your view of the article/book. Feel free to quote briefly from the article/book to support your points. Consider the tone of the article, its theme, whether it was enjoyable, how it may or may not help the reader to understand the topic, the author- style, and whether you believe the author- argument is ultimately successful or fails in some way.
2. This paper should be two to three pages, double spaced, 12pt. font, Times or Times New Roman font, one inch margins.
3. A half of a point will be taken off for each grammar or spelling mistake.
4. Submit your paper using the Article Review assignment tool by the end of the workshop.
