KII5037 KINGSFORD INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE NETWORK SOLUTIONS ASSESSMENT 3
Part A: System Demonstration
Using the system handover document as a basis in assessment 1, demonstrate the setup and configuration of your domain controller to your facilitator and other students. The presentation itself is not assessable, but the quality of your domain controller configuration and your depth of knowledge will contribute to the success of your presentation.
As part of your demonstration identify how you have prepared for work according to site-specific safety requirements and WHS processes and procedures.
The demonstration should not exceed more than 15 minutes. You are required to cover the following topics:
- Windows server 2012 R2 configuration which includes the Active
Directory structure
- User preferences and accessibility
- Main security weaknesses of your domain controller and the corrective action taken to address each issue
- Security features applied to server 2012 R2. You should also log into to a client machine and demonstrate that the security features are applied according to organisation policy
- Testing process you followed
- WHS process and procedures
Ensure that you have an image or complete backup of your system at the end of this task. If this is a problem, please alert your facilitator.
Part B: Short Questions
Complete answers to each of the following questions, adhering to the recommended word limits specified below.
- Describe 3 key features of current network operating systems (NOS) such as Windows Server 2012 or 2016. Explain how they may benefit the network admins and end-users of the network.
(approx. 100 words)
- Explain how the following features commonly available on a NOS can help resolving server applications compatibility and performance issues:
- Operating System help and support utilities
- Performance monitoring tools and tuning options
- Error and event logging and reporting
- Automated install scripts for OS or application deployment
(approx. 200 words)

- What is a “web server” and how can it be used in a corporate environment? Explain it relation to FTP (file transfer protocol) services.
(approx. 100 words)
- What is a “proxy server” in the context of network services? Explain the benefits of using a mail proxy within a network environment.
(approx. 100 words)

(approx. 100 words)
- Provide a brief description of 3 commonly used troubleshooting tools and techniques for network diagnostic purposes.
(approx. 100 words)
- Explain how you would troubleshoot the following operating system installation issues. Also, identify what could be a cause for such an issue: (a) The installation media cannot be read properly (corrupted data)
- The workstation cannot boot from the USB drive (universal serial bus)
- Some hardware components are not functioning after OS upgrade (compatibility)
- The workstation cannot boot from current OS partition and prompting to insert a Rescue Disk (corrupted primary partition)
- The workstation feels extremely slow and takes time to boot to OS
- End-users cannot login into the designated workstations through their User Accounts (Active Directory authentication failure)
- The attached printer is not printing any page and filling up the print queue (print management)
(approx. 200 words)
