MECH0012 CAD CAM

Objective: aimed to give the student

  1. Use AutoCAD to demonstrate the range of facilities available and expected in such systems.
  2. Appraise the potential for AutoCAD with specific applications of 2D and 3D.
  3. Manage an integrative design-through-to-make/test project using CAD/CAM and simulated CNC machining to evaluate the difficulties of manufacturing when compared to virtual manufacturing on computer systems.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, you should be able to:

  1. Use CAD packages eg. AutoCAD and CATIA and demonstrate the range of facilities available and expected in such systems.
  2. Appraise the potential for CAD with specific applications of 2D and solid modelling.
  3. Assess NC part-programming methods, from word-address through to modern CAM.
  4. Examine the interface requirements between CAD, CAM, and CNC equipment from CAD to CAD, CAD to CAM and CAM to CNC etc. Compare the data being transferred.
  5. Manage an integrative design-through-to-make/test project using CAD, CAM and CNC equipment and evaluate the difficulties of manufacturing when compared to virtual manufacturing on computer systems.

Question 1:

Draw the part shown in Figures 1, 2, 3and 4 by Using AutoCAD and demonstrate the range of facilities available. Appraise the potential for CAD with specific applications of 2D and solid work modeling. Manage an integrative design to test project using CAD/CAM and CNC equipment and evaluate the difficulties of manufacturing when compared to virtual manufacturing on computer system. The total part assembly shown in Figure 4.
