PTRE431 Reservoir Engineering

The project will be done by teams consisting of several students. Each team should submit a short report and a Powerpoint presentation before due date on July 27, 2017. If team uses Excel to do the calculation, Excel file should be submitted as well before July 27, 2017. Each team has 30 minutes to present the project. Each member will present for few minutes. All members need to record their presentations and upload them on Blackboard before July 27, 2017.

A well is producing a water-drive undersaturated oil reservoir. Reservoir is a cylindrical system and the well is centered in the reservoir. Total liquid production rate at reservoir conditions is equal to water encroachment rate. Reservoir and fluid properties are given in Table 1.

Assuming the effects of capillary pressure and gravity force can be ignored, determine the following:

  1. Location of water front in 1000, 5000, and 10000 hours
  2. Cumulative oil production in STB at water breakthrough
  3. Time of water breakthrough
  4. Plot water saturation versus reservoir radius at producing time of 5000 hours.
  5. Plot water front location versus producing time
  6. Plot cumulative oil production versus producing time. Producing time starts from the beginning of production to water breakthrough and from water breakthrough to 5000 hours after water breakthrough
