N404 Module 6 Graded Assignment
For the following hypothesis, what are the independent and dependent variables?
There is a difference in the hardiness levels of males and females.
- Null hypothesis:
- IV:
- DV:
Run a t-test to on the hardiness data set to determine whether to support of reject the research hypothesis. Note you will want to use the total hardiness score. Submit the analysis.
To run the analysis, follow the following commands.
Analyze
Compare means
Independent samples t-test
At this point you will need to put in the variables. The test variable is the dependent variable and the grouping variable is the independent variable. Once you put a variable in the grouping variable it will ask you to define the groups. You click on define groups and put a 1 in group 1 and a 2 in group 2. Then hit continue. This will run the test.
- Are all the assumptions met (nominal/ordinal level data for the IV and interval/ratio for the DV, equal variances)?
- Write up the interpretation of the findings including a summarization of the t-Test results and the conclusions as to whether the hypothesis was supported or not supported.

N404 Module 7 Graded Assignment
- For the following hypothesis, what is the hull hypothesis and what are the independent and dependent variables?
There will be a difference in the amount of hardiness of individuals who are
employed, unemployed or retired.
State the null hypothesis:
IV:
DV:
- Run an ANOVA using the Hardiness data set to determine whether to support of reject the research hypothesis. Submit the analysis (copy/paste to this document).
To run the analysis:
Analyze
Compare means
One way ANOVA
At this point you need to put the DV in the DList and IV in the factor box. Then click on Post hoc and check Scheffe (you need to do this because if there is a significant difference then you need to determine which groups are significantly different).
Next click on options and check descriptives and homogeneity of variance. Continue.
- Are all the assumptions met (nominal/ordinal level data for the IV and interval/ratio for the DV, and homogeneity of variance)? If so, state how.
- Write up the interpretation of the findings including a summarization of the ANOVA results and the conclusions as to whether the hypothesis was supported or not supported.
