LAB REPORT ASSIGNMENT (LR)
This assignment is worth 15% of the final mark for MTD311 - Interactive Digital Animation.
Note to Students:
You are to include the following particulars in your submission: Course Code, Title of the TMA, SUSS PI No., Your Name, and Submission Date.
Overview of Lab Report
Video-Assist-Self-Installation (VASI) often support owners as they opt to self-install merchandizes purchased online and as many companies have opted to be eco-friendly by reducing printing of paper-based instructions sheets or manuals. This is further supported by readily available mobile devices and accompanying apps from the relevant suppliers.
You are to produce a 3D Animation-based VASI to assist owners that have purchased a Working Desk Lamp from any probable supplier. The lamp is a 2-section pivot-arm type that has a medium-sized foot-print that should not take up too much desk space. Colour of the lamp comes in metallic silver or in other neutral colours. An example is provided and shown as Figure A.
1. Produce a Video-Assist-Self-Installation (VASI)
In this Lab Report (LR) students are required to design and create a VASI,
applying 3D animations. This VASI must clearly show and demonstrate how the
purchased Desk Lamp is setup by assembling the various sections in the
correct order and way as determined by the designer of the Desk Lamp (the
student undertaking this LR will also undertake the role of the designer).
Your completed submission must employ integrated 3D workflow processes i.e.
modelling, material and texture mappings, effective lighting, camera
framing and a well-paced animation that are both an effective
self-installation guide but an appealing simulation video as well. Begin
your LR by considering the following approaches and requirements.
a) Design and sketch out your conceptual approaches before you begin your
project.
b) Be realistic about the available time you have to setup and complete
this LR to ensure you can complete it with the best intended results.
c) You should begin this VASI with all the different sections of the Desk
Lamp clearly laid out before the simulated assembly begins.
d) Begin and complete the VASI in a sequence that’s both clear and
well-paced i.e. not too slow or fast.
e) Focus should be on Clarity of Instruction followed by Visual Appeal.
f) All objects must be constructed or modelled by you and not be acquired
from any other sources i.e. online downloads.
g) Construct relevant material/textures for all objects in your scene to
make it as realistic as possible.
h) The Blender 3D scene must be relevantly illuminated, applying
appropriate lighting for contrast and depth.
i) All objects, material/textures in your completed scene must be
relevantly named i.e. Avoid using default names e.g. cylinder01,
cylinder02 etc., but with meaningful names.
j) Animations must NOT be created using the Rigid Bodies Simulation
tools available in Blender.
k) What to submit?
- Ensure the following Submission Requirements of Canvas are met.
o File (Folder) Name Conventions
o File Size Limitation.
o Deadline.
· The final Blender file, titled as ‘LR_YourFullName.blend’.
· All Texture Maps used for the LR.
o Place them in a folder titled ‘Maps’.
· The final Animation file, titled as ‘LR_YourFullName_TAV.mp4 /.mov’.
o The resolution of the submitted animation must be 550 by 350 pixels.
< o Use only the H.264 Compression Codec with the best quality.
· Place the following files in a Folder (there should be 3) and submit it as a Single, Zipped Folder.
o The final Blender file titled as ‘LR_YourFullName.blend’.
o The final animation file titled as ‘LR_YourFullName_TAV.mp4/.mov’. o All texture/material maps (in a Folder titled ‘Maps’) used for the LR.
