The Local Humane Society
There is a term used in nonprofit organizations called "use it or lose it." This means that if you do not use all the money in the budget than you lose the remaining amount of the budget. This is a bad phrase to have in a business because any money not spent on something is lost. To me this does not make sense because I would just carry the money over to the next period, but one solution for this practice would be to invest the money in different ways to help out the organization. For the humane society they could improve the animal shelters by increasing the size of the animal- cages and improve the area in which they play outside. They could also increase the wages that they pay the animal control officers so that they might do a better job because they are getting paid more. Another solution is each year improve the equipment in the animal shelters and give the officer- better and safer equipment for catching wild or feral animals. This would make it much easier for them and would make it much more efficient for them to catch the animals and would also be safer for the animals.
