FAMOUS THINKERS Attempts Toward The Social Problems
Select and read the articles about two famous thinkers in the Week Four Electronic Reserve Readings. Find additional articles in the University Library or on the Internet.
Write a paper in less than 1200 words. Include the following:
• Information about the thinkers’ contributions to society
o This is a class on creative and critical thinking. The contributions must be something related to one or both of those topics.
• Each thinkers’ personal/ social/ political environments and how you think these factors contributed to their creativity
o This will be covered by presenting a very brief (one paragraph each, tops) overview of the major historical events happening during the time the thinker came up with his or her ideas. [This will take research and be sure to cite your sources.]
• The problems or issues that their ideas sought to solve
o Keep this simple, to one or two sentences for each person, but be sure to accurately describe whether it is a problem or an issue. {i.e., Einstein solved a problem in physics, Martin Luther King addressed the issue of equal rights}
• A description of the solutions, and how their ideas were implemented.
o Again, be succinct, one or two sentences for each person.
• The creative process of each thinker and a comparison of the two creative processes
o This is the most important part of the paper. All the research and all you have given so far is background for this section. What I want you to do is think deeply and try to describe how each thinker arrived at his or her answers. You may be able to find actual evidence on how each did it (Einstein is well known for his thought experiments). However, you may have to use pure speculation as to how it was done. I am looking much more for your understanding of the creative process than anything else (unless historical accuracy is involved).
• A critique of their ideas and what could they have done differently
o This is the second most important part of the paper. What I am looking for should be brief, BUT it should be clear. For each individual, give me a one sentence statement of what you would have done differently or if you would have done the same thing (imagine you are in the thinkers’ shoes). More importantly, explain why you would do something different or would have done the same thing.
Include at least four references.
