Module 6 Discussion 1: Experience in Adherence to the Therapeutic Regimen - Group 3

The first discussion enables students to share successes and challenges during the week long experiential learning project. Some issues are similar across the chronic illness and some are different. It is important for students to understand challenges to better be able to support their patients in the future.

The term "Adherence" as opposed to "Compliance" is preferred when describing how a patient manages with a chronic illness.  Adherence indicates that the health care professional and the patient have discussed ways that the patient can be successful with self care.  Compliance indicates that they are being informed that they must follow directions.  Patients always do better when health care professionals respect them and help them be successful in managing a chronic illness.

This discussion requirements for student interaction is similar to other discussions.

This discussion should include

1. One example of how you were successful in adhering to your assigned therapeutic regimen

2.  One example of a challenge in which you had difficulty in adhering to the therapeutic regimen.
