SSC 320 Week 2 Discussion 1 | Assignment Help | Ashford University
Sustainable Development Goals
Prepare: In this discussion post, you
will examine one of the best-known intergovernmental organizations (IGOs),
the United Nations (UN), which was founded in 1945 and currently has 193
Member States. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has identified
17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet,
and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Prior
to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 3 and 4 of your course
text, watch the Transitioning from the MDDs to the SDGs video created by the SDG
program on the UNDP’s web page, and chose one of the 17 goals listed on the
web page Sustainable Development Goals and review the current
projects. You need to click on “more” at the end of the short description.
This link will take you to the full description of the project. |
Reflect: As you watch the Transitioning from the MDGs to the SDGs video, please
consider the following questions: ·
Do you think IGOs will bring about unified global
societies? ·
Are the individual and collective benefits to
member states worth sacrificing portions of their sovereignty? |
Write: Once you reflect the questions above, analyze how
IGOs, such as the UNDP, benefit the global environment. What are the
political, social, and economic ramifications of IGOs involvement? You must
write at least 300 words, supporting your claims with examples from the
required material and/or scholarly resources. Please cite your sources in APA
format both in-text and in full reference citations at the end of the post. |
Respond to Peers: Respond to at least two
of your classmates’ posts in no less than 100 words. Your responses
should touch on what you found interesting about the post, if you agree or
disagree, and why you do. Please cite specific information from your fellow
students’ initial posts and the scholarly sources assigned for this week. |
