How does intent affect a court case? Research the famous Ford Pinto criminal case in which the Ford Motor Company was charged with reckless homicide. The case was eventually dismissed for reasons not related to the criminal charge. Consult your state criminal laws and read the provisions that deal with crimes committed by corporations. When corporations commit crime, many persons are generally involved over a fairly long period of time. The difficulty is determining who did what and who should be criminally liable. Should the corporate executives be held accountable? the supervisors? the employees who implemented the policies? or the corporation itself? Considering a corporation does not have “a body†to be incarcerated, what good does it do to charge a corporation with a criminal offense?
