Research the penal code for the state in which you live. 
Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
Describe the procedures that must take place following a finding of guilt before a defendant is sentenced for a felony offense.
Determine the steps that are taken to rehabilitate a defendant. Discuss the conditions under which the corrections department should consider rehabilitation and the forms of rehabilitation.
Analyze the process that a defendant must take to be granted parole or probation and improvements that could be made for the betterment of society.
Examine the requirements of being granted parole or probation to better determine how to prevent and deter repeat offenders.
